There is something about it in this novel that made it feel at times more real than real and more true than life itself. But I know exactly when I read the first page of Roberto Bolaño's 2666. Roberto Bolaño died shortly after presenting the first draft of 2666 to his publisher, Anagrama. It was reported that he was not completely finished writing or editing the novel at the time of his death. As I was reading the passage in Bolaño's novel 2666 on page 40 through 41 I was reminded of the article from the New York Times we read last week entitled, “Analyzing Literature and Words by Numbers”. It is clear that Bolaño's oeuvre builds towards 2666 and finds its fullest expression in it. 2666 by Roberto Bolano, translated from the Spanish by Natasha Wimmer. The bookmark that I use in my copy of 2666 is the Christmas card that my brother wrote to me when he gave me the book.
